Necessary Monsters

Friday and Saturday, February 29 and March 1, 2008
Necessary Monsters is a theatrical song cycle based on the The Book of Imaginary Beings by Jorge Luis Borges. Original score was composed by Carla Kihlstedt and original text and lyrics by Rafael Oses. The piece presents a menagerie of imaginary, literary and metaphorical creatures interpreted through music and text. Nina Rolle plays "The Double," a half-male, half-female being, who in the words of Borges represents "our other side, our opposite, our complement, that person we are not and shall never be."
